Last night I was, quite literally, wading in sweage. It’s a special occasion at the Cradle when we break out the hose to clean the bathroom. I saw Superbad yesterday (and the day before — it’s a must-see) and some character in the flick muttered, “fuck my life” when he had to clean an isle spill. Yesterday I worked for nine and a half hours which culminated in spraying caked feces off the floor and probably made lass than $60 dollars. Some people, many people, make that in an hour or two. How necessary is that? It doesn’t take much money for one person to live fairly comfortably. I feel there is something intrinsically wrong with our distribution of wealth, with the pay schedule society has deemed appropriate. There is an interesting measurement of the distribution of wealth in a society called the “Gini index“. It’s a wealth distribution curve and history has shown that when that curve gets too steep, the bonds of society suffer. Check out the map on that Wikipedia page; the USA is getting redder with each measure. I’m not for abolition of social strata, and I do feel that certain jobs should be rewarded more than others, however I believe a retooling is in order.
Which would you rather have: a business that was pretty much guaranteed to be mildly successful with one or two stores, or one much less likely to succeed but has a mild chance of opening a large chain? Nature has faced that very question when evolving the probability that the sex of a child is male or female. Females are much more likely to reproduce whereas males could, potentially, have many more offspring. It seems the verdict is just about an even split.
I just read that the split is shifting to be more heavily weighted towards women. My source is The Onion, so, yeah, who knows about the truthiness there. Still, assuming its true, what does that say about the shift in selection pressure?
I’m iphoning this post as I am passing some time in a doctors office. Maybe that hearing clog can be cleared up….

The Fish Grill said it would change it’s name to “Rockfish Grill” if Chuck, Chris and I ate there. While at SoutnPoint (camelCased?) I picked up the new Voices Jam Pack for GarageBand. Here’s a quick experiment for your ass.
What a great night! We played really well, and what we may have lacked in “technical precision” we easily made up for with enthusiasm. The above photo (big version), taken by Jonathan D’s fiance, Carol, captures all of us smiling at once which, from what I hear, wasn’t rare.
